about

This music is based on and inspired by field recordings made while travelling in the Sunshine Coast region of Queensland, Australia in 2006.
A version of the music was initially composed and performed live at the Transylvania Calling Festival, Romania in August 2009. A soundboard recording made of the event. A completely different version of the music was composed and performed in the Sirius Arts Centre, Cobh, Ireland in September 2009. A third version of the music was then composed to form the starting point for this album. The completed work is a combination of all three versions of the music. It’s not quite a live album but equally it’s not a studio album either. It is however the result of a year’s work that’s evolved slowly into a finished piece. It now can sit alongside the Bibbulmun and Nullarbor albums as a third part of the Australian series.

Photographs by Christine O’Brien Shanahan were taken along the journey.

As usual, thanks to Christine, Peter and Jennifer. Very special thanks to John & Claudia who introduced us to a genuine corner of heaven. As ever we are thankful to our dear friends Jacqui & Paul & family for being wonderful. Thanks to all the good folks we met along the journey and who played a part in helping to make it such a memorable time for us. I’d like to give a special mention to the good people at Australia Zoo, Eumundi Markets & Noosa.

Cheers to all the folks who've attended my performances over the last few years and provided feedback. Also thanks to Damo, Stav, everyone at Transylvania Calling and all the artists who provided pointers while I was working on the album. A special mention to Conor Nolan and the folks at the Waterford City Arts Office who helped finance this project.
